The AT-EMB-DTU is a rugged yet compact and portable Data Transfer Unit providing an efficient and reliable method of recording in-flight data, thus instilling confidence in the analysis of acquired data.

This quick method of data access is made possible by the use of the latest storage techniques like PC Card FLASH cards. These FLASH cards incorporate the ATA hard disk interface standard. The DTU has been designed to provide a simple and easy method of installation and operation. It incorporates a MIL-C-38999 series, 22-pin circular connector for all I/O interfaces. A suitable mating connector is provided along with the unit.

The host system interface is through one RS-232, one RS-422 and a single node dual redundant MIL-STD-1553B interface supporting Bus Controller (BC), Remote Terminal (RT) and Monitor Terminal (MT) modes of operation.


The DTU is designed using AMD’s Am186CU 16-bit embedded micro-controller. The unit’s front panel houses the PCMCIA/ATA card access door. Depressing the door latch releases the locking mechanism and the door is opened. An optical sensor is tripped when the door is opened and the PDR system software performs an orderly power shutdown of the memory card. This is an important feature, which prevents data loss due to operator actions during data write operations.
There are two LEDs on the front panel providing system power ON and PC Card access status indication to the user. The LED indicating the status of PC Card access glows while writing data into the FLASH card.
